Why families choose us
Occupational and Speech Therapy at our school
The Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology program at Heathcote Public School helps teachers and parents work together to support student learning. Each year, Karen and Robyn start working with kindergarten students early in Term 1. They watch the children during class and Busy Hands & Feet activities. Throughout the year, they check skills like cutting, drawing, pencil grip and notice how kids develop their language and speech.
In Terms 1 and 2, SPOT (Speech and Occupational Therapy) groups run for different year levels to improve motor skills, coordination, memory, language and social skills. Students in Years 2 to 4 take part in the Social Thinking program using the "We Thinkers" books. Year 2 OT groups focus on handwriting skills.
Based on what they see in class, group sessions and concerns from teachers or parents, detailed assessments and reports are done for students across the grades. The program focuses on early help, ongoing checking and working closely with the Learning and Support Team to get the best results for every student.
This program does not replace any private therapy your child may already have.

"It is a wonderful school with a fabulous community environment. This has been fostered over the years with a great relationship between staff and parents, with an active P&C. The teachers genuinely care about the students and their progress, their friendships and the culture of the school. The children have so many extracurricular opportunities that develop their minds and bodies, and these are well supported by the teaching staff." — a parent of Heathcote Public School
